There is a particular kind of Muslim institutional response to crisis that has become so familiar it barely registers as a choice anymore. Something happens, or something almost happens, or a community becomes aware of a danger it had been avoiding, and the response is to produce a document or a statement. A social media post with a clarifying statement. A “call to action” signed by scholars and Imams, naming the relevant Islamic principles. A foreword from a respected scholar, an introduction tracing the research, footnotes citing hadith alongside CDC statistics.
